On November 9, the 2022 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit Forum on Bridging the Digital Divide was held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province. Sheng Ronghua, deputy director of the State Internet Information Office of China, Meng Qinghai, full-time vice chairman and secretary of the secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Xie Xiaofu, deputy governor of Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, Ren Xianliang, deputy chairman of the Social Construction Committee of the National People's Congress, secretary-general of the World Internet Congress, and president of the China Federation of Network Social Organizations, and Zheng Dao, deputy representative of UNICEF in China, attended the forum and delivered a speech.
Sheng Ronghua pointed out that a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation has developed in depth, and digital technology has had a profound impact on human production and life. However, the imbalance of global digital development is still prominent, and the necessity and urgency of bridging the digital divide and achieving digital inclusion are increasingly prominent. In recent years, the National Cyberspace Office, together with relevant departments, has accelerated the construction of a network power, a digital China and a smart society, deeply implemented the digital literacy and skills improvement action for all, strengthened resource supply, built a training system, practiced social welfare, deepened international cooperation, and achieved positive results in bridging the digital divide. It is hoped that all parties will work together, adhere to inclusiveness and inclusiveness, provide quality services, adhere to technology empowerment, improve digital literacy, adhere to integrated development, expand application scenarios, and adhere to deepening cooperation and sharing digital achievements, so as to make new and greater contributions to accelerating the bridging of the digital development gap and building a community of shared future in cyberspace.
Meng Qinghai said that we should work hard to bridge the digital divide from the strategic height of promoting global sustainable development and achieving common progress for all mankind. The Chinese Association for Science and Technology organized the research on the evaluation index system of digital literacy and skills for all, carried out the Silver Age Action to help the elderly improve their information literacy, and committed to providing different people with sustainable, stable, inclusive and open digital science popularization products and services. It is willing to work with colleagues from all over the world to make digital civilization benefit the people of the world.
Happy Husband said that Zhejiang is a major province of Internet development, and the coverage and utilization of provincial networks have increased significantly, but there are still access gaps, capacity gaps and other problems. Guided by deepening digital reform, focusing on the development of the digital economy, and focusing on improving the digital literacy and skills of the whole people, Zhejiang promotes the transformation of digital use to more effective digital use, digital disability to more comprehensive digital empowerment, and contributes wisdom and strength to promoting common prosperity.
Ren Xianliang said that in the tide of global digital development and digital transformation, while digital technology promotes economic and social development and provides people with high-quality information services, it also aggravates various gaps in social development, forming an increasingly obvious digital divide. We should rely on technological innovation and application, promote digital inclusive sharing, strengthen digital skills training, improve the digital literacy of the whole people, face special social groups, bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas, adhere to standardized and healthy development, and create a good digital ecology.
At the forum, the heads of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, the World Intellectual Property Organization China Office, the UNESCO Representative Office in China and representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the International Labour Organization and other departments and industries made keynote speeches. Government officials, experts and scholars, enterprise representatives from China, Russia, Britain, Japan and other countries held round table discussions. The conference also launched the Initiative to Improve the Digital Literacy and Skills of All People, and held the award ceremony of the first Digital Rural Innovative Design Competition.
